cloudeo won ESA tender

We are honoured to announce that cloudeo was selected by ESA as the prime contractor for a recent tender ‘Procurement of Earth Observation Exploitation Platform Network Resource Services.

In 2019, ESA will begin to procure processing services for ESA’s exploitation activities from the various existing European and International Earth Observation Resource and Platform providers and to incentivise a ‘Network of EO Resources’ to contribute to a common framework harmonising their service offerings to users.

Within ESA’s Earth Observation Envelope Program, the Network of Resources aims to stimulate the uptake of platform services by scientific and commercial users, achieving a new level in scalability and cost effectiveness for accessing and processing earth observation data, by utilizing the cloud resources where the data is hosted.

We are delighted to see ESA’s vision aligned with cloudeo in lowering the entry barriers for accessing and processing earth observation data and building a common architecture to further standardize access to data from various providers. The project clearly focuses on the users and their needs with regards to the use of EO data. With the increased number and duty cycle of operational Remote Sensing Satellites and the evolution of onboard satellite instruments with higher data rates, the conventional approach to first transferring the data to the user and then the user elaborating the data further is no longer the optimal solution and results in a very cumbersome workflow for the user.

As a combination of exploitation and processing platforms, the Network of Resources will support the user in procuring services and outsourcing requirements while increasing integration of EO data and information for a broader use, for scientific, social and economic purposes, as well as for the generation of new commercial applications and services.

Together with our partners, RHEA and BHO, cloudeo will manage the Network of EO Resources and act as a facilitator for both providers and end users to create a central point of access to relevant resource and platform providers. Our experience in building a market platform for democratizing applications of location-based information lays the foundation for the next steps of the Network of EO Resources.
